Day 1, 2 & 3 - Galle, Unawatuna

Arrival in Colombo International Airport and meet with our driver. You will be then transferred to Negombo, just 2 ½ hours drive away from Colombo International Airport. You will be staying in beach front guest House in much famed Unawatuna Beach for three nights.

Day two is all yours to relax in Unawatuna beach and swim in the Indian Ocean while you treat your taste buds with mouthwatering seafood which Unawatuna is famous for.

On day three, our specialist village guide will pick you in Galle for an interesting and authentic local experience of Local Bus, Cycle and Tuk Tuk tour in the countryside of Galle. This is a 7-hour program that commences in the morning and finishes in the early evening. The first segment is a local bus ride to the rural out-backs of Galle. It’s a fun way to intermingle with the locals and is amusing and interesting. A local will accompany you, so no fears, just enjoy. On arrival at your destination you will be welcomed by the village hosts who will invite you into their humble abode where you will be hosted for a light meal of boiled Cassava or Jak fruit, which you can help, make. While the host prepares the dish it’s time to cycle around the village for some interesting sightseeing. Cycle through Rubber Plantations and see how the womenfolk tap rubber sap, pedal to a Cinnamon Estate to see how true Ceylon Cinnamon is grown and if you are lucky maybe see the processing too and enjoy a cup of Pure Cinnamon tea. Stop at the village temple and the rice fields to see them being worked on before proceeding to the children’s nursery school close by. Here you can engage with the toddlers, sing along and spend some creative time with them. On returning enjoy the meal with the family over an informal chitchat before leaving for Galle in a tuk-tuk.

In the afternoon, before heading to the beach guest house, explore the architectural marvel of Galle Dutch Fort. It boasts of being an important historical landmark with its fortified city, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later developed in the 17th century, during the Dutch Colonial period. The Dutch Fort in Galle is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. Take an exciting walk through this heritage site that boasts of a colourful history. Observe the many sites such as the Old Gate with the British Coat-of-Arms inscribed on it, the Old Dutch Hospital, the ramparts that run around the fortress with its excellent view of the ocean, the clock tower built in 1882, the light house built in 1939,the many bastions - each made for a specific purpose, Dutch colonial style houses with gables and verandahs, the Dutch Reformed Church built in 1640, the New Oriental Hotel, originally built in 1694, the National Maritime Museum and more. Next trek to the Galle Vegetable and Fish Market situated in the city center where vegetables of different shapes, sizes and colours, most native to Sri Lanka like the Banana Blossom, Breadfruit, Jak, Egg Plant, Drumsticks and Snake Gourd, a wide range of exotic fruits, along with plenty of native greens, herbs, spices all enticingly laid out in rows. Remember to talk to the vendors if you want to know more about the produce and learn the rule of thumb in choosing ‘just the right’ fruit or vegetable. Day 4 & 5 - Yala

Take a drive to Yala, just under four hours from Galle. Yala National Park is popular as one of the best places to see Leopards in the world. You will be staying two nights in a Tented safari Lodge. On the day of arrival in Yala, take a leisurely swim in the pool located in a scenic setting with the backdrop of a large windy lake and take a sunset canoeing trip in the lake for some bird watching during the sunset.

On day two, you will be taken for a guided full day safari tour with picnic meals in Yala National Park in search of Leopards. Not only Leopards, Yala is home for Elephants, Sloth Bears, Crocodiles and many varieties of birds. You will be served with an outdoor dinner, just by the lake with a magical setting of a roaring campfire. A time for a chit chat with your family about the wildlife sightings you came across when in safari, an exciting day of your family holiday in Sri Lanka.

Day 6 - Udawalawe

After a hearty breakfast, transfer to Udawalawe, just 1 ½ hours away is another important wildlife destination in Sri Lanka popular for Elephants and is home for Elephant Transit home for Orphaned baby Elephants. Afternoon is yours to spend a leisurely family time by the pool and you will be staying in a small safari lodge closer to Udawalawe National Park.

Day 7 & 8 - Sinharaja

Wake up early morning and depart for five hours guided safari tour deep in to Udawalawe National Park to see wild Elephants. There can be chances of seeing the Leopard or two as we go deep in to the park but that is something rare. Let’s see how lucky you are. Udawalawe National Park is a very good place for bird watching too. Inside the park, you will be served a cooked picnic lunch.

After an exciting safari, you will be then transferred to Sinharaja for two nights stay in a small hotel by the border of Sinharaja Rain Forest. Afternoon is yours to be at leisure chilling out by the pool.

On day two, take a guided full day trekking trip in Sinharaja Rain Forest to witness it’s bio diversity, see varieties of endemic and resident birds and also to swim in a waterfall. Picnic meals will be served during the rain forest nature trail. Sinharaja rain forest is home for two varieties primates, Gray Langur and Purple-faced leaf Monkey.

Day 9 - Negombo

After breakfast, transfer to Negombo which is five hours drive approximately. In the afternoon you could explore the locale of seaside Negombo or enjoy the time by the pool. You will be staying in a family run guest house closer to the beach and the area is filled with roadside restaurants and pubs for you to have an entertaining evening before saying goodbye to Sri Lanka as it is your last evening in Sri Lanka before heading to the Maldives on your family holiday.

Day 10, 11, 12 & 13 - Maldives

After breakfast you will be transferred to Colombo International Airport which is just 20 minutes away to catch the flight to Maldives to begin another chapter of your exciting family holiday in Sri Lanka and Maldives. Upon arrival in Maldives, you will be taking the public ferry with the help of our local guide to go to a local island which is approximately 90 minutes away and you will be staying in a local guest house in a local island closer to the beach for four nights. Upon arrival at your guesthouse you will have time to settle in before exploring the island with your local guide to get yourself acquainted with the layout and to observe Maldives local life. Experience traditional ‘Hedika’ - Maldivian savoury and sweet snacks served with black tea at a local cafe. Dinner will be served at your guesthouse.

On day two, breakfast this morning is served at your guesthouse before being taken out by boat to enjoy a 90 minute guided snorkeling tour to nearby reefs to discover the underwater world of the Maldives. The afternoon is yours to relax or for those feeling a little more energetic take advantage of the many water sport options available including surfing and diving. This evening dinner is taken in the home of a local family allowing you true access to local life.

On day three, following breakfast you will be taken by speedboat to an idyllic sandbank just a short distance from Maafushi. Here you have the opportunity to swim, snorkel or just lie back and relax. A picnic lunch will be served before we head off to snorkel in search of turtles. The soft corals available on this reef usually mean its lunchtime all the time for turtles! On the return journey to Maafushi cruise the Indian Ocean and hopefully spot dolphins. This evening subject to weather conditions dinner will be served on the beach under the stars!

Following an early breakfast on day four, we take a short 20-minute public ferry journey to the quiet local island of Gulhi, where your guide will accompany you on a tour of the island. Visit the boat yard to stand in awe at the size of the boats under renovation, chat with the ladies sweeping the streets and finally refresh yourself with a cool Kurumba (coconut) watching the comings and goings at the harbour. Ready for relaxation you can choose to head to the bikini beach or for the more energetic join your guide for a final snorkeling opportunity on the house reef of Gulhi.

Day 14 - Departure

Following an early breakfast, you will transfer on the early morning public ferry to Male and accompanied by a local guide you will discover the history of the capital city and visit places including The Friday Mosque, The National Museum (entrance fee not included) and Sultan Park.
